PICDEMTM 18R PIC18C601/801 Demonstration Board Summary The PICDEMTM 18R Demonstration Board demonstrates the capabilities of the PIC18C601/801 family of Microchip microcontrollers. It supports both PIC18C601 and PIC18C801 devices and provides a hardware implementation of both 8-bit multiplexed/de-multiplexed and 16-bit memory modes, as available on PIC18C601/801 microcontrollers. The board includes on-board 2 MB external FLASH memory and 128 KB SRAM memory, as well as serial EEPROM, allowing the user to access the different memory types the PIC18C601/801 can interface to. The PICDEM 18R comes preprogrammed with monitor firmware that interfaces with a PC based software (included), to allow users to evaluate the multitude of peripherals on-board the PIC18C601/801. It can also be used as a bootloader to program user code into either external FLASH memory or SRAM memory. The Windows(R) based setup program contains PC software, complete firmware source code and tutorial files in both assembly and 'C' languages. The board employs a daughter board approach, where users can add their own memory and experiment/develop their applications. Flexible monitor/bootloader design allows easy integration of new FLASH memory. In addition, it also provides a general purpose prototype area for user circuit. The Demonstration Board is also equipped with a 6-pin modular connector to interface directly with the Microchip MPLAB(R)In-Circuit (ICD 2) Debugger. With the addition of the MPLAB ICD 2 (sold separately), the developer can completely reprogram the FLASH and debug the application.
