REQUIREMENTS:

Dimensions and configuration: See fi gure 1.

The chain or rope shall rotate freely on the fastener.

Materials:

a. Cover - aluminum alloy.

b. Cover, bayonet pins - stainless steel, passivated.

c. Chain - stainless steel, passivated in accordance with RR-C-271, type II,

class 3.

d. Disk (gasket) - silicone elastomer.

e. Fasteners - stainless steel, passivated.

f. Ring - stainless steel, passivated, .030 i nches (0.76 m m ) m aximum

thickness.

g. Rope - 7 strand stainless steel, passivated.

Finish Designators (class E is superseded by class L):

A – series 2, hard anodic, non-conductive in accordance with MIL-A-8625, type III, .0008 i nch

(0.020 mm) minimum thickness.

L - series 2, electroless nickel, conductive, in accordance with MIL-DTL-26482.

D - series 1 and 2, pure electrodeposited aluminum, conducti ve, in accordance with

MIL-DTL-26482.

T - series 1 and 2, nickel fluorocarbon polymer, conductive, in accordance with

MIL-DTL-26482.

W - series 1 and 2, cadmium, conductive (500 hr dynamic salt spray in accordance with

MIL-DTL-26482.

K - series 1 and 2, zinc-nickel, conductive, in accordance with MIL-DTL-26482.

QUALIFICATION: Qualification and requalification requirements shall be in accordance with

MIL-DTL-26482, series 1 and 2 connectors.

Connector mating: This protective cov er mates with all MIL-DTL-26482, series 1 and 2 connector

receptacles.

Intermateability di m ensions shall be in accordance with MIL-DTL-26482.

L - Chain or rope with a length of 5. 000 +. 500/-.250 inches (127 +12.7/-6.35 mm) in lieu of

standard (STD) length. For standard length, leave blank (the standard length is the defaul t

length).

Change effectivity . Unless otherwise specified by the qualify i ng activ i ty, all changes from the previ ous

revision of this specification sheet shall become effective within 90 days of the date of publication of the

latest revision. If unable to implement changes within the 90 day time period, the manuf act urer or value

added distributor shall notify the qualifying activity. The qualifyi ng act i vity shall determine if an extension

may be granted.

Disposition of stock. Unless otherwise specified by t he quali fying activity and coordinated with the

preparing activity, qual if ied m anufacturers and their selling agents or distributors many cont inue to ship

protective covers that include f l at rings for style N (in lieu of angl ed rings) in accordance with the previous

revision of the specification f or a period of 6 months from the date of the latest revision. DLA st orage

stocks may continue to issue product manufactured in accordance with t he prev i oi us rev ision until DLA

storage stocks are depleted of protective cov ers t hat include flat rings.

Amendment Notations. T he m argi ns of this specification are marked with vertical l i nes t o indi cat e

modifications generated by t hi s amendm ent. This was done as a convenience only and the Gov ernm ent

assumes no liability whatsoever for any inaccuracies in these notations. Bidders and contractors are

cautioned to evaluate the requirements of this document based on the entire cont ent irrespective of the

marginal notations.
