FingerChip software installation
Congratulations for choosing FingerChip™ technology!
FingerChip™ technology is the best choice for fingerprint capture. No other technology will be able to offer
such a small device with the best capture capabilities at such a low cost.
With the FingerChip™ software, you will be able to acquire fingerprint images.
The authe ntication software is not part o f this installation.
You will find the following components in this distribution:
- Documentation\ Document (PDF format)

2. BEFORE INSTALLATION, INSTALLATION UP DATE, REPAIRI NG
Before installation, it is recommended to uninstall previous version if any. Note that the installation software will
detect and propose to uninstall. You will need to run the installation software a second time to perform the
regular installatio n after uninstal ling.
Perform uninstall also in the case of a bro ken installation.
Note:
Windows 98: it is not useful to migrate from release 11.11 to 11.12, there are no significant changes.
Windows 2000: previous versions were not working under Windows 2000 (so no uninstall is necessary).
3. FIRST INSTA LLA TIO N
3.1. Windows 98
Windows 98 or later is required for a proper installation. See further about other operating systems.
1. Run the setup program in the install directory of the distribution media
2. When asked for the hardware, select the setup that corresponds to your hardware. You can select between:
The FingerChip FCD4B14 interfaced with the Genesys USB interface (Sweepee 03)
The FingerChip FCD4B14 interfaced with the SCM USB interface (Sweepee 02)
The FingerChip FCD4B14 directly connected to an EPP (Enhanced Parallel Port) of a PC
3. The setup will copy the drivers and install the applications in the selected directory
(Program Files\FingerChip\ is the default and recommended directory)
4. Connect your hardware to your PC.
If you have a USB interface, Windows will detect a new hardware, and automatically install the driver
You will also find the drivers in the “Drivers\” directory of the distribution media. They are useful only
if you missed to launch the setup program
If you are using the parallel port, no driver installation is required.
5. Set the parameters to default values: you can either use FC_GetImage_Setup.exe (click ‘Default’ and
‘Save’) or delete FC_GetImage.ini file located in Windows System directory.
6. Once finished, run the Training2 application to check if everything has been properly installed.
3.2. Other operating systems
3.2.1. Windows 95
Windows 95 does not support USB. Only the parallel port interface is supported.
3.2.2. Windows 2000
Windows 2000 is supported for the Genesys USB interface: the driver is the same than Windows 98, follow
the same installation pr ocedure.
Windows 2000 is not supported nor guaranteed for SCM USB interface. Nevertheless, the driver for
Windows 2000 is the same than Windows 98.
The parallel port interface is not yet supported
3.3. Windows NT
USB interfaces are not supported in Windows NT, and you will get an error if you try to use the parallel port
interface.
3.4. Linux
Linux is not supported.

4. IF YOU HAVE ALREADY IN STALLED THE RELEASE 12.00
This applies only to the Genesys USB interface. If you have to install 11.12 release on a s ystem which has 12.00
installed, please proceed as follows:
Launch setup pro gram to uninstall existing release
Plug the USB Genesys device
Remove the device using: ‘Control Panel’, ‘System’, ‘Device Manager’, select the device and ‘Remove’.
Unplug the device
Launch Windows Explorer, ‘Tools’, ‘Find’, ‘Files or Folders’, fill ‘Named’ (*.inf) ‘Containing text
(FCGene.sys) and ‘Look in’ (WINDOWS or WINNT directory depending on the Operating System), then
click on ‘Fi nd now’. It should find FCG ene.inf.
Remo ve the file FCGene. inf
Launch the setup program to install 11.12 release.
Plug the device. The driver is now automatically installed and the 11.12 release is available.
Note that this configuration has not been fully tested, particularly under Windows 2000, so you may experience
problem while removing the driver.
5. MANUAL DRIVER UPDATE (for Win98)
If you don’t succeed in removing a driver, you must first remove the device using: ‘Control Panel’, ‘System’,
‘Device Manager’, select the device and ‘Remove.’
Then, launch Windows\Regedit.exe and remove the correct entry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, Enum, USB.
Vendor Id and Product Id define the correct entry.
Then, remove the .inf and .sys files from the disk.
Since Windows copies .inf files in the Windows\Inf\Other directory, be sure to search for all .inf files located in
Windows\ containing the appropriate string, and delete them.
6. SDK
DO NOT USE T HE RELEASE 11.xx FOR ANY NEW DEVELOPMENT .
