Product Brief
Description
The USB-TV SM2210 Refer ence Design is a USB dongle
peripheral that makes it easy to capture and pl ayback audio,
video, and t elevisi on signals on Micr osoft Windows based
personal computers equipped wit h USB ports. The USB-TV
design can output MPEG video to either the computer display or
a standard NTSC/PAL video monitor. Typical USB-TV
applications include:

The main hardwar e components of the USB-TV boar d are a
NTSC/PAL TV/FM tuner, Philips SAA7121 NTSC/PAL video
encoder, Philips SAA7114 video decoder , the SM2210
video codec, a Cypres s EZ-USB FXTM USB controller, an
analog audio mul tiplexor, and IR sensor for opt ional remot e
control.
The NTSC/PAL video decoder and encoder interf ace
glueles sly to t he SM2210’s video port using ITU-R BT.601
and ITU-R BT. 656 digital video data for m ats.
The SM2210’s host int erface connects glueles sly to t he
Cypress USB contr oller for transferri ng MPEG-2
compressed video over the USB cable.
The Audio mult iplexor selects analog mono or st ereo audio
output f rom three di fferent sources: mono audio f rom the TV
tuner, stereo FM audio from the TV Tuner, and stereo audio
from an external source.

Reference Design Kit are:

Software Licenses
The USB-TV Refer ence Design Kit includes evaluat ion
software li censes for Qdesign and Cyberlink. It is t he
manufacturers ’ responsibility to contact both companies and
acquire the appropriate number of OEM software lic enses
when manufacturing and s e lling products based on the USB-
