DESCRIPTION
The CAT811/812 are microprocessor supervisory circuits
that monitor power supplies in microprocessor-based
systems and other digital systems. The CAT811 and
CAT812 have a manual reset. Featuring reduced power
supply current, the CAT811/812 are direct replacements
for the MAX811 and MAX812.
A reset signal is asserted if the power supply voltage drops
below a preset threshold level. Seven threshold levels are
available to support 5V, 3.3V, 3.0V and 2.5V systems. The
CAT811 has an active LOW reset output that is guranteed
to be asserted for at least 140ms after the supply voltage
has risen above the threshold voltage. The CAT812 has
an active HIGH reset. The CAT811/812 have push-pull
outputs that do not require pull-up resistors. Fast transients
on the power supply are ignored and the outputs are
guaranteed to be in the correct state with the power supply
voltage as low as 1V.
The CAT811/812 are fully specified over the operating
temperature range and are available in a compact 4-pin
SOT143 package.
Seven threshold voltage options are available:

2—RESET Active LOW reset. RESET is asserted if VCC falls below the reset threshold
and remains low for at least 140ms after VCC rises above the reset threshold.
2 RESET Active HIGH reset. RESET is asserted if VCC falls below the reset
threshold and remains low for at least 140ms after VCC rises above
the reset threshold.
33MR Manual Reset Input. A logic LOW on MR asserts RESET. RESET remains
active as long as MR is LOW and for 140ms after MR returns HIGH. The
active low input has an internal 20k pull-up resistor. The input should be left
open if not used. It can be driven by TTL or CMOS logic or shorted to ground
by a switch.

DETAILED DESCRIPTIONS
RESET TIMING
The reset signal is asserted LOW for the CAT811 and HIGH for the CAT812 when the power supply voltage falls below
the threshold trip voltage and remains asserted for 140ms minimum after the power supply voltage has risen above
the threshold.
VCC TRANSIENT RESPONSE
The CAT811/812 protect µPs from brownouts and low VCC. Short duration transients of 100mV amplitude and 20µs
or less duration typically do not cause a false RESET.

VALID RESET WITH VCC UNDER 1.0
To ensure that the CAT811 RESET pin is in a known state when VCC is under 1.0V, a 100k pull-down resistor between
RESET pin and GND is recommended; the value is not critical. For the CAT812, a pull-up resistor from RESET pin
to VCC is needed.
BI-DIRECTIONAL RESET PIN INTERFACING
The CAT811/812 can interface with µP/µC bi-directional reset pins by connecting a 4.7k resistor in series with the
CAT811/812 reset output and the µP/µC bi-directional reset pin.
