The M16C/62 retains all key features of the M16C family of microcontrollers, including high-speed processing, low power consumption, C-Language code efficiency, and low noise emission. Operating frequency has been increased to 16MHz, providing for a minimum instruction execution time of 62.5ns. This represents a 60% performance increase over previous M16C family offerings. Power consumption is a low 21 milliwatts, offering major power savings in portable and battery-operated applications. In addition, total address space for the M16C/62 family has been increased from 1 Mbyte to 1.2 Mbytes, with an option mode for 4 Mbytes of bank memory. The I2C (Inter-IC)* bus for the M16C/62 is a two-wire serial interface originally developed by Philips. Multiple masters and slaves can communicate through this bi-directional bus. Since the bus requires only two wires, it is widely used in audio, video and consumer applications. An integrated 3-phase PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) circuit provides features for motor control, such as industrial motors and air conditioners. The M16C/62 meets consumer application requirements by providing an integrated LAN interface (IE bus) capability for use in applications such as car audio and home stereo which rely on LAN connections via the I2C bus to establish communication between devices. Chip size was not compromised in making these enhancements, so the new M16C/62 family of 16-bit microcontrollers boasts of a high cost-performance ratio. *I2C bus is a trademark of Philips Corporation MITSUBISHI ELECTRONICS AMERICA, INC.
